Something remarkable has happened to Ethiopian travel while nobody was looking: the country grew a new generation of destination lodges. Not renovations — entirely new resorts, several of them on lakes and plateaus that had no tourist bed at all five years ago.
The new names to know

Most of these grew out of the Dine for Ethiopia initiative, and what unites them is scale and intent: real spas, real architecture, and locations chosen for wonder rather than convenience.
What it means for your trip
The classic Ethiopia itinerary — churches, castles, mountains — now ends somewhere soft. Two nights at Gorgora after Gondar, or a Halala Kella detour between the south's coffee country and the Omo, turns a demanding trip into a balanced one.
